PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

A collection of underused transitional spaces within the Radboy Residence was reworked as a coordinated family of stainless-steel pantry units. The intervention consolidates food, spice, appliance and specialty storage into purpose-built cabinetry using folded and perforated metal, full-extension drawers, adjustable shelving, integrated power and concealed light washes.

Each unit was developed around the constraints of the existing residence, resolving irregular dimensions, appliance clearances, circulation and the thresholds between rooms. Oven and appliance storage, pull-out pantry racks, illuminated work surfaces and specialized drawers introduce the performance of a compact professional kitchen without expanding the original footprint.

Rather than imitate the architecture of the house, the project establishes a deliberate material counterpoint. Continuous metal surfaces sharpen the presence of the retained carved wood casings, parquet flooring and adjacent pink-tiled kitchen, allowing the historic and contemporary construction to remain distinctly legible. Integrated lighting reduces the visual weight of the compact rooms while making their depth and storage capacity immediately usable.

Working from Babak Radboy’s design vision, Martino Elliott led design development and project delivery from site documentation through technical drawings, fabrication coordination and installation. Responsibilities included planning the cabinetry systems, resolving appliance and lighting interfaces, developing fabrication details, coordinating with Top Hat, managing evolving site conditions and overseeing the final installation.

The Omsk Wings (Омские Крылья) are the official farm team of Avangard Omsk, competing in the VHL (Supreme Hockey League) as a direct feeder system into the KHL. Historically, the Wings operated under the Avangard umbrella without a distinct brand identity of their own. The new emblem and jersey designs mark a turning point for the team — establishing a unique visual language that honors its role in player development while elevating its independent presence.

Viktor Blinov Sports and Concert Complex (СКК им. Виктора Блинова) — A landmark of Soviet modernist architecture located in Omsk, Russia, and built in the late 1970s, the arena was recently renovated for the team’s return, funded and overseen by the Avangard Hockey Club.

It is known for its striking façade geometry — a brutalist pattern of diamond forms designed to resemble a carved block of solid ice. For the rebrand, the team emblem and jersey designs drew directly from the bold, strong presence of this architectural monument.

The identity draws inspiration from mythology, sport and architecture.

The Avangard Hawk is not just a bird of prey
it is a visionary,
a strategist.

With one eye fixed on victory and wings that embrace history,
this hawk embodies the foresight of Odin himself.
Like the god of war and wisdom,
it watches from above,
calculating every strike.

It is not merely swift -

it is inevitable

OBSERVED was preparing to introduce itself into the world as a premier lifestyle brand and the brand needed a digital overhaul in order to put its best foot forward. We decided a state of the art website was essential to connect the brand’s broad range activities; e-commerce, in-person curated events, private events, a farm and aviary in the Catskills, and showroom in Williamsburg.

The task was to build a web platform that could be a foundational storytelling tool, a place for patrons to keep up to date with what is new in the OBSERVED world and lastly, a place for people to shop.

We built a flexible e-commerce and publication platform that can be operated fully independent from web-developers using a user friendly CMS platform.

The website became a design tool that organized the brands hierarchal functions. One can see this hierarchy directly translated on the website structure diagram:

Dark Mode:
As the storytelling arm of the website we chose to go with a dark backdrop more reminicant of a theatrical experience.
Dark Mode is also home to sharing information about OBSERVED’s physical spaces; Williamsburg, Catskill and Pop-Ups.

Light Mode:

Devoted to displaying the product offering through a minimally designed e-commerce platform.

Labeled “Market”, tipping the hat to the many farmers market and village markets found on the Main St of many downtowns.

Continued the minimal design approach through the e-commerce platorm. We utilized quick add features and hover to view in order to minimize the user jumping to new pages.

Each product page can be extended with custom editorial content for a deeper dive into the meaning behind each OBSERVED product.

OBSERVED transforms a street level glass elevator into a temporary green-house and retail environment. Offering accessories, apparel, plants, prints and a moment of pause and connection.

The interior custom wood shelves design draws inspiration from Japanese Zen Gardens and organic forms seen in topographical maps. A printed vinyl was wrapped around the ground floor glass, expressing a digitized foliage landscape.

Inspiration for the project

Store

Temporary store located in a decommissioned glass elevator located in Rockefeller Plaza in Midtown Manhattan.

With the constraint of a tight 80sqft, we optimized the space with simply offsetting the boundry for the border of the custom cnc’d wooden shelves.

We had fun with the exterior as well; transforming the perfectly transparent glass into a fogged blur and dititized forest.

OBSERVED’s annual summer event was a couple months away. The website launch coinciding with the event created a perfect opportunity to develop a campaign to bring both visibility and traffic to the brand; ‘days’ was born.

Large format imagery of a serene forest was juxtaposed with bright yellow text that advertised OBSERVED’s slogan “From Earth For Earth '' with the dates July 29 as an invitation to the observer to investigate what ‘days'  is all about.

It was time to develope the first line of apparel. Our approach was to design a series of graphic pieces that spoke to each of the major value nodes that OBSERVED emulates.

A curation of designs which speak to valuing our surroundings, the soil, the unseen cycles of our ecosystems and beauty of the planet.

Emphasizing quality over quantity, the apparel vendor selection that reflected a mission that respects the planet and their workers was of most importance.

Industry City commissioned Factioned to develop an interactive marketing system for the ground floor campus. The goal was to develop a system that allowed for visitors to have access to all the various activities that exist on the campus. Allowing for users to both find their destinations, but also gain an understanding of the diverse range of tenants that are continuously producing on the five floors above.

The module design incorporated a non-touch screen, a motion sensor for user control, computer and a display case.
